The Erie Situation,” a new documentary about toxic algae blooms will air simultaneously on six PBS stations in four states at 9 p.m. ET on Monday Sept. 12. To see if your station is one of them, click HERE.

Finding news about harmful algal blooms is easy – a Google News search provides headlines of the latest outbreaks. But we wondered if there were more useful tools for real-time updates of outbreaks?

The answer? Yes and no.

It turns out just more than half of the states have an online tracking site – either a map or updates – that help determine where toxic algae are located, if there are warnings about avoiding contact and other scientific data.

With credit to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), which provided a list, Great Lakes Now assembled this interactive map.

Please tell us if we missed any.
