Video showing Enbridge Inc.’s Line 5 pipeline taking damage was recently released and has sparked new debate on the risks associated with having an oil pipeline running through the Straits of Mackinac.

Enbridge’s Line 5 has been a major issue of concern for both Michigan’s previous administration as well as the current one, with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel releasing a statement on April 29 declaring that she would “use every resource available to our office to shut down Line 5 to protect our Great Lakes.”

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer used an executive order in late March to halt action on a proposed tunnel around Line 5 before later reopening talks with Enbridge mid April.

Enbridge has also been a concern in Minnesota with its Line 3 pipeline.
