Waukesha’s Water Withdrawal History

Waukesha, Wisconsin made history recently by becoming the first city outside the Great Lakes Basin to be allowed to draw water from Lake Michigan for its municipal drinking water source.

But did you know Waukesha made history long ago for its water withdrawing reputation?

It was dubbed “Spring City” in the mid-1800’s for its healing waters from numerous springs.

In the following feature, producer Matt Stinson tells Waukesha’s “Spring City” story as part of our long-form documentary on water withdrawal called “Tapping the Great Lakes” #tappingtheGL.
