Whitefish stocks in lakes Michigan and Huron have plunged, and scientists fear entire bloodlines could be lost within years.
With no cure in sight for the mussel invasion that has made the lakes so unlivable, some scientists want to move whitefish to inland lakes and ponds, where they would live as refugees until conditions improve.
