Did you know there’s a sinkhole in Lake Huron that looks like the Earth 2.5 billion years ago?
The Middle Island Sinkhole is in Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and it was formed by groundwater eroding away the limestone lakebed. The sulfur-rich, oxygen-poor water is the perfect environment for the cyanobacteria that first oxygenated the planet.
Great Lakes Now is teaming up with @InspiredPlanet-x6r and @FriendsofTBNMS to present the first-ever livestreamed exploration of this underwater world.
