The deepest part of the Great Lakes, Superior Maximus, is more that 1,300 feet beneath the surface of Lake Superior. It’s cold temperatures and crushing pressure mean that only a handful of fish species call it home.
Shawn Sitar, a biologist with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, has spent decades studying Superior Maximus without ever seeing it for himself.
