Are you a Detroit high school student interested in the environment, TV production and planning community events?

(Or maybe you know one and could share this with them?)

With funding from PBS Education, Great Lakes Now and the Belle Isle Conservancy are offering a paid internship for a high school student to help plan the April 24 Spring Clean Up on Belle Isle event AND produce a video about it to help other students and organizations have similar events to raise environmental awareness.

“The student will get plenty of help from our Detroit Public Television staff in coming up with a video about their experiences,” said Sandra Svoboda, program director of Great Lakes Now, a DPTV initiative. “Their work is going to land on PBS Learning Media, which has lesson plans and other information and is used by students, families and teachers around the country.”

To apply, please send a 300-word email about why you’re the right person for this opportunity to careers@belleisleconservancy.org by Feb. 28 with the subject line “PBS-Great Lakes Now Intern.” Include a resume if you have one.

More information is HERE.

“We’re excited that this expands our partnership with Great Lakes Now,” said Mary Ogilvie, communications associate at Belle Isle Conservancy. “High school interns have been part of our environmental education programs in the past, and we love that a student’s work from this internship will be showcased beyond our project and on the PBS and Detroit Public Television platforms.”

The Belle Isle Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that works to protect, preserve, restore and enhance the natural environment, historic structures and unique character of Belle Isle as a public park for the enjoyment of all.

The Conservancy and Great Lakes Now teamed up in July to begin a series of Facebook Watch Parties, which now include WDET-FM, Detroit public radio, as a partner. Catch those each “first Friday” at 1:30 p.m. More information is HERE.
